Position Summary

We're looking for an Estimator & Project Manager who can read blueprints, build accurate bids in Excel, and stay engaged with a project after it's won — coordinating with our field team, keeping customers informed, and following projects through to final payment. This is not a sales role. Most of our work comes to us through relationships and bidding, so we don't need someone chasing leads. We do need someone comfortable on the phone or in person with customers — confident enough to help them land on the right solution for their project and for us.

Key Responsibilities

• Read blueprints, specifications, and drawings, and perform accurate material takeoffs
• Prepare estimates and bids using our Excel-based pricing templates
• Price work accurately and competitively while protecting company margins
• Talk directly with customers during the bid process — asking the right questions and steering them toward a scope that works for their project and ours
• Stay involved after award, functioning as project manager: coordinating with production and field leadership, tracking schedule, and handling change orders or scope questions
• Prepare clear turnover packages so the field team has what they need to execute
• Follow up on invoicing and payment through project closeout — this role owns collections on its own jobs, not just the bid
• Juggle multiple bids and active projects at once without losing track of details
• Keep organized records of takeoffs, estimates, and job costing for future reference

What We're Looking For

Above all, we need someone self-motivated and ambitious — someone who sees a gap and closes it without being told to, who wants more responsibility because they've earned it, not because they asked for it. We've struggled to find people who fit that mold, so if that's not you, this role won't be a fit either way.

• Estimating experience — construction estimating strongly preferred, fencing experience a plus but not required
• Ability to read blueprints and specs and perform takeoffs
• Strong Excel skills — comfortable building and working inside spreadsheet-based bid templates
• Confident, professional communicator with customers — comfortable guiding a conversation without being a "sales guy"
• Self-motivated and ambitious, with a real sense of ownership over outcomes
• Highly organized, with strong follow-through from first bid to final invoice
• Comfortable holding vendors, subs, and even customers accountable to keep a project on track

Preferred Experience

• Fencing, gate, or related site-work trade experience
• Prior project management experience in construction
• Bluebeam, CAD, or other takeoff software experience
